Water Crises Awareness

Water is one the beautiful blessing of Allah and we can not imagine life on earth without it. Sad part is that we have done nothing to preserve this gift and that’s why water is becoming abandon. Over 80 % of Pakistan lies in the aired or semi aired zone and due to excessive evaporation, which is increasing every year because of temperature rise and unpredictable precipitation it is extremely important to give priority to this issue. Whole world is facing water scarcity issue due to global warming and Pakistan is in the list of top 10 countries to be affected by climate change. If no proper measures are taken at this time Pakistan is going to face worst drought in next decades.

Drought

According to IMF report Pakistan ranks 3rd in the list of countries facing acute water shortage and by 2040 Pakistan will become most water stressed country in the entire region. According to analyst’s water scarcity is bigger problem than terrorism for Pakistan and should be sorted on priority basis.

Climate change is the main reason behind water stressing in the world and Pakistan is in the list of most affected countries by climate change. Every year temperature of earth rises between 0.6 to 0.9 degree Celsius and this figure is rising every year.

Climate Change

Rising Population is another concern for Pakistan as Pakistan is 5th most populous country. More population means more water usage and more industries which leads towards more water scarcity. The pattern of consumption is increasing every day with more population and single supply source.

Poor water management is another cause of water stressing in Pakistan. There is no proper water storage system in Pakistan to store rain and flood water. We do have best irrigation system but due to high temperature lot of water evaporates and we have less water for crops. Other than this the crops we grow in Pakistan do not generate that much revenue. Our government policy is to provide water to the masses, but its sustainability is not been discussed.

Glacier is the main source of water in Pakistan. Glaciers But due to climate change these glaciers can outburst any time and result in flood which we can not stop because we do not have enough Dams for storage.

Melting Glacier

There is no simple solution to the water scarcity problem. It will take solid steps from government to water consumers for many years.

Large infrastructure is required in the country to tackle this issue. We need dams across country to store water and stop floods. Infrastructure requires significant financial resources which is also challenge for the government.

Methodology

We will start awareness campaign among youth of schools, colleges and universities. Different Seminars will be arranged in different educational and professional institutes to make people more concerned about water scarcity.

Special campaign will be launched to educate households on how to use fresh water and how we can save our country from being water stressed.

Social media help will be taken so that our message is heard everywhere.
