What is ActivityShare?
ActivityShare is an app built to solve a problem we had remotely monitoring the health of members of our family. We live in California, our parents live in other states. While they’re not technophobes, they don’t like “intrusive” technology. And while they seem fine to use basic, low-cost health & fitness trackers, they seem particularly unimpressed with the cost of the Apple Watch. The ActivityShare app was designed to collect Apple Health data in the background, automatically sharing selective health information within a secure group. For us, this allows us to monitor health data of our dispursed family. And to keep things fun, we have some simple goals to keep everyone motivated to stay active & healthy.
How secure is ActivityShare?
We use ActivityShare ourselves. We are GDPR and ISO27001 compliant and built the app using information security management system (ISMS) best practices, which for us personally means your data is yours, and your data is securely encrypted and obfuscated. Further, we do not save your data beyond the duration you have selected (ie., 7 days or 30 days) from within the app. If you want to receive a copy of your data, permanently delete your data and your account, simply contact us a gdpr@moflo.me.
What data does ActivityShare collect?
ActivityShare is based on the Apple Health app. Apple currently has API’s which collect over 100 different health related items, including basic activity (ie., calories), walk/steps, run, cycle, heart rate and other biometic data like height, weight, BMI. The ActivityShare app collects a subset of this data, as determined by the settings in the app itself. Users can set weekly or monthly goals for these selected items — either individual or group goals.
How do I set up a family group?
All members of the group need to have an account on the ActivityShare app, with a unique email address. Groups can be set up by any user, and invitations to these groups are managed within the app. Simply agree who will host / own the group, and have that person invite all the others using their unique email address. When other family members join they will be automatically prompted to join this group. Users can leave the group at any time. The group host / owner can manage invitations within the app itself.
What does it cost?
The ActivityShare app is free to download, and supports a free and paid tier. Anyone can share basic activity data (ie., calories) but to track a wider variety of Apple Health data, and to set up group goals, users will need a paid subscription.
