We are getting ready for Thanksgiving, reconnecting with distant family members again and sharing stories and time together. We’re also talking about health.

One of the changes that modern society is facing is one of increased longevity, which leads to the simple fact: we are spending more of our lives as “seniors” than ever before. Dr. Ungerleider has numerous studies on this topic and her organization The End Well Project is specifically focused on addressing the clinical, societal and technical challenges of dealing with, well, the end of life.

Unfortunately aging also comes with various physical and cognitive challenges which need to be addressed by any technical solution provided to seniors.

Our personal challenge has been to find a solution to remotely monitor the health of the distant family members. The advent of the Apple Watch and other fitness trackers have been a boon to many people trying to find a way to monitor personal health. However, we have noticed that not everyone is comfortable with either the expense or the complexity of these devices. Also, various inexpensive fitness trackers are offered by health care service providers.

We built ActivityShare specifically to enable a way to share fitness and health information between family members who only have an iPhone and perhaps a 3rd party fitness tracker.

To make it simple to use, we leverage the Apple Health app to provide background monitoring & sharing. We think it couldn’t be simpler to keep track of our family’s health.

We hope you find is useful this Thanksgiving to reconnect and possibly use ActivityShare to a modern solution to your family’s health challenges.
