We’re in this together

It’s absurd that every new social good organization needs to build their infrastructure from scratch.

Each organization develops a new website that replicates the functions of every other. They create a social media presence across multiple sites, and then they must produce enough content to attract attention to their important work on every platform. Once they have that attention, they have to keep developing content to maintain it, even as the platforms on which they operate encourage competition for eyeballs and clicks rather than collaboration. Resources are scarce for any nonprofit, and they are particularly scarce for startup nonprofits and newly launched electoral campaigns. At ActWorthy, we firmly believe that it should not have to be this way.

Social Media for Social Change

ActWorthy’s mission is to make effective grassroots collective action simple. We are the social media platform for social change. We are the platform that catalyzes participation in our communities rather than delaying it. We want to put an end to unnecessary competition between social good organizations.

As a community member who wants to take action, I shouldn’t have to visit 20 different websites to allow 20 different community organizations to attempt to turn me into a volunteer. You might be thinking: “But that’s what Facebook is for!” Not quite. Yes, every community organization has a Facebook page. And that Facebook page is useful to share messages and events with the people who follow it. But Facebook has no vested interest in ensuring that people actually attend your events or take your actions. Facebook only cares about keeping people on Facebook.

ActWorthy is supported by social good organizations so that we can be the platform that solves the problems facing those who seek to create change. In doing so, we are encouraging all social good organizations that require grassroots support to join our platform. You no longer need to waste time and resources marketing on sites that monetize your supporters’ data.

By bringing your audience to ActWorthy, you are attracting community members to a site that allows them to choose how they want to make an impact. You are extracting them from the stream of content that consumes so much of our time, and you are asking people to spend time doing things that make a difference. You are creating the conditions for cross-pollination between community organizations. By building a group of people who want to do good together, we can collaborate to activate community members to solve our society’s problems.

How ActWorthy Works for Organizers

You create, target, and share actions. ActWorthy does everything it can to increase action that supports you, including facilitating simpler action, finding sponsorships, and distributing rewards for taking. Community members discover and take action. Rinse and repeat.

From the organization’s perspective, we provide a growing list of features and services designed to grow your impact. Here’s the current list:

  1. Create Actions: We walk you through the process of creating an action.
  2. Target Actions: While creating an action, you get to choose the group of people who receive the action in their feed.
  3. Get Followed: ActWorthy allows users to follow you, making it more likely that they’ll see your actions in their feed and receive them in their email digest.
  4. Free Advertising: That’s right. ActWorthy finds funds to advertise your actions and sends digests to hundreds of local actors each week. In some cases, this means finding local business partners who want to sponsor your actions. In other cases, we pay to advertise for you because we believe that your success is our success. We want to bring as many people as possible into our ecosystem for action. We believe that this will encourage more action by community members and develop deeper relationships between social good organizations and their supporters.

ActWorthy’s Tools for Users

From the user’s perspective, ActWorthy has two main functions: to help them take action and to inspire them to action.

ActWorthy’s menu
  1. Act: A feed of actions that you can take to make an impact on your community. Wondering what you can do? Come here.
  2. Email Digests: Every user of ActWorthy receives a weekly email digest with recommended actions and events included. They don’t have to come back to ActWorthy to see or take these actions, only if they want to receive credit and rewards.

Coming soon…

  1. Sponsorships: Small, local businesses want to support you and align themselves with you. ActWorthy is building the system that enables them to sponsor your monthly subscription (and all actions you create) or sponsor specific actions and events.
  2. Inspire: A “newsfeed” of posts, images, and articles designed to inspire you to take action. Every post must connect to an action in the Act feed. When you finish reading, don’t scroll down to the next post: take action. Then scroll down.
  3. Automated Reminders: RSVPs on other sites do not carry much weight. ActWorthy sends calendar invitations, reminder emails, and a confirmation text message 2 hours before the event to make sure you get the best attendance you can from your RSVPs.
  4. Leaders: ActWorthy assigns points to each action based on the level of effort required and tracks how many points you earn by taking action. If you want to “Go Public”, your name appears on the leaderboard. Otherwise, you can remain anonymous (by default).
