FCB HEALTH’S AREA 23 AND WAVIO WIN GRAND PRIX IN INNOVATION FOR ‘SEE SOUND’
MEDIA VISTA
One project we had as a team was to choose between different winners in different fields from the Cannes Lion 2019 International Festival of Creativity. Our team chose the winner from the innovation space, the Area 23 for the device ‘See Sound’.
‘See sound’ is a device that is suitable for people with hearing problems. Its purpose is to alert individuals through an application of various sounds that may exist within the home. The device is powered by an AI-learning model and leveraged a data set of over 2 million 10-second sound clips sourced from billions of YouTube videos. See Sound responds to 75 cues in all, including breaking glass, beeping microwaves, loud thuds, police sirens and gunfire.
They try to make ‘See Sound’ an amazing, simple and beautiful design. And they did it!
Even using it requires nothing more than plugging- in the device and connecting the app to the phone. When a sound occurs, the closest See Sound makes a prediction based on its confidence level, alerting the user on their devices.
‘See Sound’ is a vital necessity to the deaf community. People who have no hearing impairment have the ability to hear if an accident occurs. But if you’re deaf, if you didn’t see it, it didn’t happen!
