Four Horizons’ Journey: Final Boss

Our first campaign! Here are some behind the scenes things about it…

When the project of a campaign was assigned to us, we collectively knew that we wanted to make something interactive and eye catching. We all agreed we would make a video concerning the nostalgia strategy for sure! Based on the creative brief we did and the brand positioning Miro boards, our team members got to work.

We created animal crossing characters that reflected Nintendo’s audience as much as possible, our personal characters as well, because we do indeed like to play the game outside of this project as well, and we made a quiz for people to find out what character they would be from the 7 that we had thought of.

…but WAIT! How did a Gen Z team find a Millenial’s console?

And here, follows a short story by a member of our team, Four Horizons, that explains the source of our inspiration.

“The story begins in the 1990s when my mother was about 20–24. My grandma had bought for her children -my mother, her sisters, and brother- a Nintendo console for them to pass their time. Also, she bought them games like Super Mario and Donkey Kong, games that in our day and age are considered classics. My mother grew up and gave birth to my sister and later to me. Since we were children growing up with technology and could understand how to use game consoles, our mother taught us how to play with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. And that’s how my love for Nintendo began.”

So, it’s easy for someone that read the story above to understand how we were inspired for the theme of our video-campaign: “Passing from one generation to another”.

About our Campaign’s Quiz and Gameplay Presentation

We were thinking about our Nintendo campaign by observing our findings on our Miro boards and, as we pointed out before, our reference point was the nostalgic element of our client. But, we also wanted to express its uniqueness, as a result of its accessibility by all ages, by analyzing a bit more its target group. In order to deeply understand what kind of people would be attracted to the Nintendo world, we envisioned what kind of personalities those would be. So, in order to visualize those characters we used Nintendo’s mobile app Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp themes and character creation to embody customers’ elements and. After processing we came up with 6 characters from all ages and styles, and we also created a quiz on the platform Interact Quiz Maker, in order to help someone who is interested in playing the game to find their style.

That’s how Samantha, Yuki, Oliver, Harry, Aria, Dolores and Stanley were born into our digital world. Through those characters, we also had the opportunity to present how easy, immersive and interactive the gameplay is, no matter the age. And, of course, we suggested that there are other free Nintendo free apps for all preferences (Yay!). Concluding, in combination with our nostalgic videos, the quiz and gameplay presentation align with Nintendo’s mission: “Creating Smiles for Generations”.

Four Horizons on Social Media

Horizons were on social media all the way through this joyful journey. Each and every one of the projects we have pulled of, is accompanied by a following post on Instagram 📷 (@four.horizons), Facebook 🧑🏻📖 (Four Horizons) and Twitter 🐦 (fourhorizons). Through these, we were able to promote our work in a fresh and playful way, sparking the interest of followers and possible clients of ours. Processing and editing our variable posts -and generally through our whole work-, we managed to reach a new level of creativity and novelty in digital editing (we dove into certain digital editing apps and got experimental), which was really helpful so as to improve our skills on that sector, reaching a higher level of potential.

Of course, creating from scratch and editing our very own Four Horizons website 🌐 (http://4horizons.tilda.ws/) , played a vital role in that too. Through our site, you can find info about our crew’s members, our values and vision and most importantly our projects. There are short but detailed posts, including the essence of each and every project.

Especially about our campaign…

To promote and get people hyped for own upcoming campaign, we resorted to our social media accounts. First of all, a few teasers were made. In particular, we posted some “coming soon” posts, teasing the context of our campaign, inclining our followers towards the nostalgia part. Furthermore, having created plenty of short screen recordings and screenshots, presenting different aspects of Animal Crossing, we combined them all together via InShot and Microsoft’s video edit app. Therefore, a full-blown video presenting utterly the essence of both Animal Crossing and Nintendo through generations was made. It’s even uploaded on YouTube, so as to be accessible to anyone who’s interested. We also posted it on Instagram TV 📺, and, of course, through our website 🌐, where you can find out all about the whole campaign, as there’s a special page concerning it.

Moreover, Horizons created multiple posts via all of the social media accounts, displaying each one of the characters we had so much fun creating in Animal Crossing, following a few details about them.

We wanted to develop an all- inclusive concept, meaning that all characters have different backgrounds, such as cultures, gender, sexuality, occupation, etc. This way, Horizons gang wishes to promote distinctness and an accepting environment, where everyone feels comfortable and secure 🫂. In connection with the nostalgia part, we embrace the fact that age isn’t something that stops you from anything either.

Thankfully Nintendo provides all of that and more.

Lastly, through the course of this whole semester and all the challenges 🕹️ that we had to face, we learned and acquired some new skills, knowledge and information about the world of advertising and got a taste of what it’s like to run a creative start-up company. We learned to promote our projects on social media, how to analyse and present different topics and how to work as team. We saw things through a different perspective and grew as personalities.
