GreenAct: Our Website Project

This is a post regarding our project in the course of the subject of Digital Creativity: Apps, Games and Coding of the Marketing and Public Relations Department.

In this project we had to create a website by downloading the Wordpress.org application into a sub-domain that we had created initially in the official domain of the university named adandprlab.com.

Our website had to focus on being of international and organizational character while inkeeping with an idea or issue of modern and worldwide interest and value.

After following the nessesary steps from the Wordpress and FileZilla tutorials that we were provided with, alongside with what we had learned in class with the various guest speakers, we came up with the idea of GreenAct, a non profit environmental organization that focuses on creating opportunities for each person to create and promote their own environmental activation.

Our Slogan-> Save the planet one act at a time

Our primary goal is to promote sustainability and social responsibility through personal activations towards the planet as all and any kind of problem and action is crucial to improving and helping our natural habitat.

The activations are based on the idea that people can make their own decisions regarding the environment by improving and solving the problems that appear on their own areas and neighborhoods. When the local municipalities and other organizations fail to see or solve the difficulties in the environment which big corporations or simple people have created, the citizen needs another option in order to take the matter in his own hands.

That other option is what GreenAct offers. In other words, GreenAct works as a kind of promotional service in each website, connections and social media, of enviromental acts that various people all over the world submit to them.

After GreenAct evaluates their problem, they begin to promote it in order to gather as many volunteers as possible. By keeping in constant communication with the person who submitted the form for the action, GreenAct sets a date or a number of dates for it too happen and if nessessary provides funds for it, retreiving them from the donations that volunteers have given to its website.

The actions can have various forms and ideas from reforestation and garbage cleaning to planting trees in urban areas, building ecological parks and playgrounds, installing modern recycling bins and organizing public consultations regarding following an ecological and energy-efficient way of life.

The website of Greenact provides the user with 4 different sections to interact with:

  1. Act Now: Here the user can track down the latest announced enviromental activations and by clicking the button “I’m Interested” take part in them. Once he/she choses an action the exact details and information of him/her will be sent to their emails very close to the date of its realization. A map is also available with pins which mention the locations and titles of the latest activations.
  2. Actions: In this section, the user can check out the success stories from previous actions that have happened. All the stories are written by volunteers which took part in them, especially those who organised the enviromental events.
  3. Contact: Here the user can come in contact with the basic group members of the organization and ask any possible questions that they might have as well as submit their own enviromental actions to be posted and promoted by the organization.
  4. About Us: This is the section where every user can find out the nature of the GreenAct organization, how and why it was founded, its basic group members and FAQ buttons containing the most basic questions-answers that one might have. A “Donate” button is also provided so that anyone can donate as much money they want to the organization for it to keep working and raise funds. One can donate either by using their credit cards or Paypal accounts.

Additional Features:

  • Subscribe Form to receive the stories of the latest successful actions and of the latest active actions.
  • Poll in order to receive feedback about the character and activations of the volunteers.
  • Social Media Menu so as to help the volunteers connect faster and more easily with our social media accounts in Facebook, Twitter and Google+

Color: The color that we used as our foundation on building the website of GreenAct is #green as it connects the users directly with the idea of the environment and nature. Green is also considered to be a very calming color as it resembles our natural habitat, but it can be active too as it stimulated the senses and makes the user pay more attention to what is written or depicted.

Fonts: Open Sans and Verdana

All the basic elements and inscribtions of our website are written in Open Sans while the texts, articles and posts in Verdana. These fonts are both very similar and they too are considered to be clean-written, modern, easy for the eye, they stimulate the reader’s interest without getting him/her bored.

In the future we hope to expand our organization’s reach to more countries and start to build a consistent and reliable foundation for personalised activations concerning the environment, an issue more impotant than ever in the latest years. It is also very important to build trusting relationships with other national and international organizations and groups in order to gather more funds and increase our activations.
