Lab of apps, games and coding

As our course has come to its end, we as the Strange Think team made a summary of the highlights of every single lesson. We’ ve learned many things and faced many challenges to get to the point we are now, more aware and informed in many different areas of the field of our studies.

UX

UX is an interesting task that we have done in ADandPR Lab. Two men came to our class for two elections and they talked us about it. User experience (UX) design is the process design teams use to create products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. This involves the design of the entire process of acquiring and integrating the product, including aspects of branding, design, usability, accessibility and function.

UX designers’ main goal is to solve the end-users’ problems and provide delightful product experience, and thus the ability to communicate the design to stakeholders and developers is critical to the ultimate success of the design. So we have nothing but to follow a list of many steps in order to apply this method every time you want to test if the design of a product will have the desirable results. After we understood how this method operates, we had to do a project aiming to implement our theoretical knowledge in a practical way. Thus, our team choose the KineMaster and in the second UX election made a presentation about user experience for this specific app.

Mobile App Design

Our Home Page

Before reaching the end of trip down to the memory line of Wednesday’s labs, one of our classes was led By Maggy Kontou, teaching us the steps someone should follow when building an app. Here are some of the key points, things that we remember vividly.

When building an app, your app, there are 5 steps you need to follow: analyze, design, implement, test και publish. Before even reaching the design step, the basic data, starting from whether the app is needed to all the possible routes the user may take inside the app (flow chart). When you step on the design, your idea takes its form. This is important; try to apply as much as possible.

The UX (user experience) and UI (user interface), we adapt the app to the different operating systems and the corresponding devices as well (e.g. in relation to the inches or to the unique screen designs). All of the above lead us to the prototyping, the thing we were assigned to also perform. We couldn’t not indicate that this particular part broaden our horizons and our perception of the way the world operates, making clear to us of all the possible directions one small act could follow.

Moving on to more practical issues, implementation is where the app connects with the outside world, how payments are being made, where the data are stored (cache, cloud etc.), how the user is being notified and the app is ready to run! Being tested to avoid any issues with bugs or dead ends, then running through analytics and being distributed to the app stores of the operating systems we chose to work with.

Finally, the big launch accompanied by digital marketing, thus ways of user engaging in daily basis. One must consider which are the suitable apps for our app to be promoted on and of course, all this little tips and tricks that will gain us more profit (for example, when creating a game app, one could feature a “get extra coins” banner or something like this so if the user wants this, they will get it only if they watch an ad).

KineMaster

In the Ad & Pr lab we all had to succeed in many projects while learning a lot of amazing, topnotch things. One day we were asked to bring out phones and chargers on the next class we all had to download KineMaster. That happened because during class out teacher asked us to go outside and create a video themed “what’s happening right now”, edit it and then show it to him. In the beginning it sounded really infeasible because no one knew how the app worked. After a while everyone found the way with cooperation and manage to create the video we needed. KineMaster proved to be an interesting and extremely useful tool in many other projects.

Wordpress

The lessons we had with Mr Kontaxis helped us again very much on how to create our own blog. I remember he made a personal lesson for those who didn’t have his lesson at the first term and I have to say that his move of doing this was very helpful for all of us because some had the chance to remember some tips and for others to learn quickly how to build their blog. After his great lessons we were asked from Ms Tsakarestou to create a personal and a team blog. With both of the teachers advices came to a great result!
