First of all, in the context of a course called “Ad Discovery Workshop” by Mrs Betty Tsakarestou at Panteion University, Communication, Media and Culture department, we were called to form a team and find a creative and innovative solution to a problem of our times. Our team consists of five members, three Greek and two Erasmus students from China.

After a lot of consideration, research and thought we decided to create a site inspired by two factors: a problem our generation faces today and a trend. More specifically the problem was that less and less young people, both Greek and Chinese, nowadays read books for entertainment, something that has been proven in Greece by multiple researches such as the 3rd National Research of Reading Behavior and Cultural Practices made by the National Book Center in December of 2010[1], and the trend was the more and more frequent use of quotes from books, movies, theatrical plays e.tc through social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The combination of those two factors led to the birth of “Quotivation”. The word quotivation is the result of two words: quote and motivation, because our aim and vision through this site is to motivate people to read more literature by the use of quotes.

But how is that possible? For starters, a quote can easily catch the eye, it doesn’t take too long for someone to read it and it can trigger feelings. Since it has caught the attention of the viewer all it takes is for him/her to follow the link to our site in order to find out more from where it came from. Once he/she is transferred to the specific blog post he/she will find out the title and the author of the book, a small plot summary and a section called “Why you should read it” where some of the pros, always according to the one who has written the post, are being mentioned. Also, in order to make our site more interactive we are giving to the viewer the ability to like, comment and share it to his/her social media platforms. Furthermore, everyone is welcome to send us their favorite quote on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram page and we may as well make a publication about it in our site. Moreover, we also decided to add a section where we‘ll publish articles for various themes such as books that have been transferred to the big screen or tributes to famous authors combining this way our studies with the general theme of the site.
