Tranquil - Our Journey

The firsts steps of the skater…

After our trip in Morocco, we started to think deeply about our project. Lucile drew some drafts of what she had in her mind. She tried to find a connection between the drawing and the mood of the brand.

We have a group of friends who like skateboard and surfboard, with who we love to spend time and chill. Wherefore we had the idea to draw a skater, because it reminded us the chill atmosphere of the moments. The main color is orange because of the sunsets and the heat which reminds summer but also the weather and the colors in Morocco. The typography is handmade, inspired by the Arabic writing.

Why Tranquil ?

The name Tranquil is based on a state of mind: simplicity, letting go, authenticity, positive energy… It’s the french for “chill”, “relax”, “cool”.

How we launched Tranquil Clothes

One day, we met a man totally by chance on Vinted. He played an important role in the development of the brand.

  • What is Vinted?

Vinted is a French app made for selling, buying or exchanging second hand clothes. This app matches with our values because it reduces the waste of clothes and the accumulation of rubbish.

By the reusing and recycling of the clothes, big international firms who are polluting and exploiting workers can be boycotted.

So, thanks to this app we contacted a designer who use to make screen printing. We made a cooperation so that we could print our drawings. We chose white, black and sand colors of t-shirts and tote bags.

Later, in May 2020, we created an Instagram account to promote the brand. We started to sell the t-shirts to friends who were interested. Gradually, unknown people began to be interested as well. We set a base price at 20 then 25 euros. Today, we sold around 150 t-shirts.

Our target audience is mostly young people, from 15 to 35 years old. We don’t aim at women than men.

We organized cultural meetings, where people came to play music, dance, sing or just simply meet new persons and enjoy their time. In those ones, we wore our t-shirts, we told about our story and we put a sales stall dedicated to the tote bags and the t-shirts.

Alice wore the t-shirt for a dancing representation in the street in June 2020.

Our values

W e took part in environmental meetings as we are invested in ecology. Indeed the fabrics we are using are Eco-responsible since they are made with organic cotton.

In the photos on Instagram, both gender are wearing the t-shirts. Indeed, one of the main values of the brand is the non-gendered fashion.

We want fluency materials to let the body express as much movements as it wants.

Our next projects

For the next collection, we planned to make t-shirts, shirts, bags and tote bags. We also planned to use chiefly second hand materials. We will get the textiles bases in thrift shops and directly print the logo and the drawing on it. Then, we have a friend, Sabine Tréhin, who embroiders drawings on shoes, we will therefore make a collaboration together.

Clara Noblet and I are both Erasmus students in Athens and for this project we wanted to use the brand that we created and that is now maintained by our friend Lucile Bily. The Greek vibe in Erasmus totally matches with the spirit of the brand. Wherefore we found some inspiration here to make our advertising promoting “Tranquil Clothes” which is explained in the following article.
