Diabetic Cyborg Life 3/20: 6 Month Endocrinologist Checkup
Sitting in the waiting room for my 6-month endocrinologist checkup is never fun, yet it is even worse this time with the outbreak so COVID-19 virus. My mother drove me to the office as she usually does. This time she is waiting in the car to minimize her exposure the waiting room would ensure.
Of course, hospitals and waiting rooms always promise some measure of exposure as that is where the sick go for help. Sitting waiting to hear the inevitable usual mispronunciation of Maldonado as, “Macldonado,” as we Americans are so McDonald’s obsessed. Someone to my left has a coughing fit, was that a case of choking on spit or water, the COVID-19 virus? Just another reason I wish I had a mask for these kind of doctor’s office visits.
Glad they are over 9 feet away from me at least as the CDC and everyone says about “social distancing.” These waiting times are usually just another morning time to catch on all my usual social media feeds after I “check in” on Swarm and Facebook as proof of life. Plus, that will give me a year ago post in 365 days that reminds me that a year ago I was here at the doctor for the usual checkup.
This is just a taste of the mental game I play as I navigate my life of chronic illnesses with a world-wide pandemic in process.
