Our primary care physician, or PCP, raised the fact that ovarian cancer is rarely caught before it is too late in my appointment with her. She’s been my Mother’s and mine PCP for the last few years. Mom’s every six months’ appointment comes right after mine usually.
I messaged her months ago when mom became bed ridden and unable to function as “normal.” So, she knew very well that our family was concerned and knew more than usual aches and stomach pains were her issue then. Our doctor said that mom must see she needs attention before she can intervene.
Her saying the fact that most ovarian cancer is fatal when caught does ease my mind and I hope will ease all our minds. Further, our doctor stated that unless her OBGYN or gynecologist wanted a biopsy or her ovaries for no reason, little could be done before she was in her current state. Tumors in other organs causing discomfort is actually how most ovarian cancer is found, sadly.
Expensive imaging tests or a biopsy for little to no reason might’ve caught her cancer earlier, yet, sadly, this would’ve landed us exactly where we are now.
