Poem: ‘Mowing The Lawn As Bildungsroman’

I mowed my grass and let the clippings fall
Scattered through the stumps of what was once tall.
Let the lawn thrive on the compost of this,
Devouring its own cut down grass-is-flesh:
Just like human beings — we who grow fair
On the mulched absence of what we once were.
