BLADE Chrome Extension Update

It’s been a longer than usual wait for an update for the BLADE Chrome extension, but we now have the solid information to announce to the community.
The Problem We Encountered:
In late May, the BLADE Chrome extension was removed from the Chrome store after an excellent first month. The team, lead by Conor, worked swiftly to get a side loading extension available at blade.software (which has been fully functional to this day!). The team then continued to work on a long-term solution to Chrome’s Terms & Conditions.
The T&C’s stated that an extension could only have one use — ie. it could not block and then replace ads. The team quickly developed a two-extension update with an ad-blocking extension and an ad-replacing extension.
While the ad-blocking extension was approved by Chrome, unfortunately the ad-replacing extension was not approved after several attempts to submit it.
The Team’s Solution:
With the success of the side load extension being fully operational in the past month, the team has decided to have the ad-blocking extension in the Chrome store and the ad-replacing extension available at blade.software as a side load extension.
This distribution model gives us Chrome Store ranking and visibility as a top ad block extension, as well as the credibility of an extension being hosted in the Chrome Store. When installed, the ad block extension will notify the user that they can earn free crypto rewards when they install the ad replacing extension. We’ll be releasing more details on the specific notifications that users will see once the updated extensions are ready to go live.
What this means for users:
The new two extension model is not live just yet. When it is, users will need to install the latest version of the blocking extension from the Chrome Store and then install the latest version of the replacing extension from blade.software.
Users will have the same functionality as before:
- Block ads & protect privacy
- Replace ads & earn ADB token rewards
- Referral links for even more crypto rewards!
Right now, users can continue to use BLADE v1.1.1 for Chrome at blade.software!
What’s next for BLADE:
As announced at the end of June, development is underway for the second BLADE browser extension — this time for FireFox! Stay tuned for updates on the launch date and even more info on earning crypto with your FireFox browser!
