The All-Star break was nice for me as it allowed me to whip together a nice excel sheet for MLB that I hope to be able to share more with you in the coming weeks but I’m excited NBA is back. Let’s jump right in, shall we? I’ll go over my favorite play at each position on DraftKings for GPP.

On this slate the biggest things to keep in mind were the Kings and Pelicans trade as both teams are on this slate. I mentioned in my other article I’m not likely to utilize Brow or Boogie just yet until the dust settles. Mainly because of their price points and not sure that they can justify their salaries just yet without seeing some games first.

Assuming, trades for the teams mentioned below are done and we’re good to go, these are my starting five. A key player on any of these teams or opponents teams could change the landscape of the game so just keep that in mind. I will do my best to provide an update should anything like that occur.

This group will give you plenty of options for your G, F and UTIL spot rotations as I don’t mention any big dollar guys.

Point Guard — Derrick Rose $6,100

If you haven’t figured out by now, when it comes to Kyrie there’s little defense. And I’m not just talking about the fact he thinks the earth is flat. Kyrie and company have allowed opposing PG’s a +3.97 according to Fantasy Labs. And FWIW, he’s my top rated PG of the night as well.

If Collison weren’t so priced up, I’d be a little more hesitant to go the Rose route but at 6.1k I really like the value he brings with 7x realistic upside in this game. He’s rested up and should be good for a full allotment of minutes and should give us some single digit ownership tonight.

He was at shootaround this morning and one can only hope this means he won’t be traded before 3 pm.

Shooting Guard — E’Twaun Moore $3,400

While I’m staying away from the bigs in this game, I think I’m taking a chance on Moore tonight at 3.4k. While for cash games he might be a lock because he can easily get his 5x value at this price point, it’s not for sure he’ll get to where we need for a GPP win.

E’Twaun Moore DK points when playing over 28 minutes via Stat Muse.

He has averaged around 25 DKP with 28+ minutes played and has seen ceiling of 30+ in good matchups. Let’s do it!

Small Forward — Tyreke Evans $4,200

I had Kevin Durant here but with Garrett Temple being out tonight, there’s a lot of potential for new Kings team member Tyreke Evans. It’s unknown how he’ll be used but with Barnes, Casspi and Cousins gone, it opens up a lot of opportunity. Not to mention Gay is out too.

Plays will have to happen somewhere on the court tonight. I’m taking a shot that he’ll play as many minutes as Tolliver and he’s just an overall better basketball player. The only downside is his ownership will likely be very high and there’s a lot of unknown with how this Kings team will operate.

Power Forward — Channing Frye $5,500

You may have thought today was Thursday but it’s really Frye day. Frye didn’t have a full set of minutes the most recent game with the Knicks but in just 15.5 minutes he saw 21.75 DKP.

Tristan Thompson is someone else I was looking at in the front court for the Cavs since he’s often overlooked but now with Frye’s price up, I don’t think he’ll blend in as much as he did before. He didn’t do to well in his last outing vs the Knicks but he’s someone else you could look at. I just foresee Frye getting his 30+ minutes he got the last two games before the break and this matchup vs the Knicks is a good one as they are giving up a +3.97 to opposing PF.

Center — Nikola Vucevic $7,100

I was originally writing up Koufos here but he feels more suitable for cash lineups where low 20’s from a 3.5k guy will be fine but we’re trying to win a GPP. That’s where Vuc comes into play for me.

POR allows a +3.84 to opposing Centers and with tonight’s value you can probably fit Vuc with ease. Perhaps that will change with Plumdog no longer there but I still like Vuc as my top C option tonight. I think he has similar upside as Drummond but $500 less.

There’s my core group of guys I like tonight. Most of them are great value so it should let you do quite a bit with your generic G, F and UTIL positions. Anyone you’d exchange in this group? Leave a response below.
