Helping addicts in their recovery, one step at a time

If you have known someone addicted or have been an addict, then you know the problem well. Not just staying in the situation is bad, but also getting out of it is not pretty easy. Most of the addicts give up on their recovery journey in the initial stages itself. The path to sobriety makes them agitated and stressed hampering their conviction in it. The blame partly goes to the habits that an addict is not able to win over during the course. Read further to know those and how to avoid them.

AVOID BARS AND CLUBS

The 2 places ever-popular for getting alcohol and related stuff are bars and clubs. Alcohol consumption gets one over suppressions and also decreases brain’s capacity to think rational. Therefore, it is advisable for an addict to stay away from that fluid as much as they can. Moreover, it is likely for a drug peddler to visit such places. Hence, all the more necessary to avoid so as to not get into a drug relapse.

ALOOF YOURSELF FROM ADDICTED BUDDIES

It would be difficult to resist the temptation if everyone around is savoring drugs. An addict may have a strong will power, but it can get defeated in the company of addicts. Friendly obligations and yesteryear ties prevent an addict to muster strength for saying “NO”. It is through them that an apparent harmless shot trails an addict to re-addiction. That is usually how most of the addicts never get out of the addiction trap. More on the subject is here.

LETTING THE STRESS AFFECT YOU

For many, falling into the habitual pattern of drugs is dependent on stress. The more they have stress, the more likely for them to find recluse in drugs. In plain words, they take the route to ecstasy to avoid the daily drudgery. But the times when an addict has given up on drugs, the fear of handling stress stresses them. During those phases, an addict gets back to their addictive ways to get over the panic. The tranquilizing effect of drugs soothes them and leads to a dependency. To avoid permanent dependency on drugs for avoiding stress, managing stress is the key. Psychological counseling and finding comfort with the loved ones provides help.

ALLOWING NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AFFECT YOU

Addiction in itself is a negative word. It has a destructive effect on one’s physical and mental well-being. Also, an addict stands a chance to lose his career, relationships and even life! During the phase of staying addicted the person is numb to these detrimental outcomes. But as and when they distance themselves from the drug, the reality dawns on them. The harshness of the bitter truth then starts inflicting repentance on them. It is a difficult situation to be in for anyone in their respective lives. The easiest solution for this would be diverting the mind to something positive. Visiting a new place or devoting time and energy to a social cause can lead to positivity.

FANTASIZING ABOUT HEYDAYS OF ADDICTION

This is one difficult habit to overcome for any addict. Even the ones who voluntarily enrol to a rehabilitation are not spared of this one. It is for nothing that the substance abuse is so addictive. The craving for the drugs is hard to suppress indeed. The stages of cold-turkey are the times of profound temptations and lusting. The more an addict longs for his addictions in the past, the more he entices and relapses.

The only means to avoid this is to think about something else. It is a good opportunity to try working on the relations that got severed due to addiction. An addict can also learn a new skill or even consider learning a new language. Anything that could keep them apart from drugs and addiction would be good.
