When you talk with an Addict you can start to see some speech patterns of why the Addict needs to get their fix. Most of the time the fix is rooted somewhere between dealing with fear and coping with anxiety. Fear and anxiety is not the cure all, however recognizing fear and anxiety and using processes to cope with fear and anxiety is helpful with the daily struggle of an Addict.

Overcoming Fear and Anxiety in Everyday Life

Fear and anxiety are two very powerful emotions that can keep a person bottled up in life. Everyone has a fear or is anxious about something, but how those things are overcome is what matters. You feelings of fear are certainly very normal to have. When we are faced with uncertainties, our minds can become fearful. Not knowing what to expect, fear of failure, and anxiety about change are all very common. These feelings, if you allow them, can destroy your way of living. Here are some tips that can help you overcome the fear and anxiety you feel on the day to day basis:

Write Them Down

Writing down your fears and anxieties can help you come to some realizations. Whenever you feel yourself getting fearful or anxious about a certain circumstance, jot down what those feelings are about. For instance, if you’re fearful of failing at a new position you got at work, write down what scares you about the position. Are you afraid of the increased workload? Is there more advanced software you have to use? Are you fearful of managing staff? Writing them out can help you pinpoint the fears and work on them one by one.

Worse Case, Best Case

A great way to stop your brain from traveling down the long road of “what if” is to think of best case and worse case scenarios. Laying it all down in front of you can help you to see the reality in it. Sometimes our imaginations can get the best of us, which causes us to think things are going to turn out worse than what they actually are.

Relax

Another way you can overcome fear or anxiety that you’re feeling is just relaxing. Before the matter takes place, find ways to relax your mind. Divert your mind to something more positive. Using the sample above, before you start your new position, take a nice warm bath and just relax. Play some music, light candles, and just let your mind rest. You will find that you feel much better about going to work the next day.

Talk It Out

If you are really fearful of new change or events that might happen in your life, you could need to speak with someone about it. Some have been known to have anxiety disorders which cause them to feel this way quite often. A trained medical professional can assist you in training your brain to think positively.

When you face your fears head-on, you will find that not everything is the end of the world. Fear and anxiety are normal, but they can control your life if you’re not careful. These tips will help you push past your fears and experience life in a way you might have never done before.
