A NOTE TO YOUNG PEDIATRICIANS
Hello Dr. KUMAR,
I’m sure each one of us who takes the decision of judgment in his or her career must have met with such a situation at some or the other moment in their life. And, being in medical profession this agony can much more be associated with doctors. It’s a fact that we knew that we wanted to be a doctor, a road less travelled by in terms of career choices but that dilemma of choosing the specialization to practice was a major concern.
After years of hard work and learning, I became a pediatrician. As a young doctor honestly, my inclination was not towards the baby thing but somewhere during the last days of my MBBS when the test of time came, I decided to choose child-healthcare. As it was the major picture that had a requirement to be corrected by doctor’s; coz the healthcare of kids in our country is a major concern.
And being an experienced pediatrician myself dealing with mothers and children, I know the intensity of performance we need to undertake with tender love and care. So, here I’m going to share a quick quality to-do checks that my young doctor colleagues can use as a guidance to understand what we pediatrician follow-up for our practice. These are not academic dictations I’m sharing; coz I really know you all have medical-gyaan empowered Pedia- minds.
A) A pediatrician must be a good natured personally who is sensitive & enjoys high level of interactions.
B) Comfortable to work in a loudest of baby’s cry environment as well. Remember you are treating a baby so understand the child psychology, try to be a kid at heart and rest with coming years you’ll learn.
C) Patience and comfortable vibes to parents, as they are in the most sensitive phase of their lives. So, be ready to be fired with questions that might not hold relevance to you but must be for them.
D) Easy going for medical delays, so ability to accept them with gratification is a keynote.
E) Sometimes the parents may interveal while you are examining a child, although you know that there child’s health is a cause of concern but you need to make them understand in a comfortable and convincing way.
D) Enjoying of variety of activities like interactions, seminars, health camps etc.
E) Being updated, remember either you run the day or the day runs you. So, accept the change in medical practices by being updated with the latest methods of technology
F) And the final mantra for you is “You have followed your passion so enjoy your work”
Yours,
Dr. GUPTA
