Celebrating the rebranding and relaunching of:
The Cozy Reading with ADHD Club
Welcome to a community of readers and writers with ADHD!
What’s special about reading with ADHD?
Reading with ADHD is imagination and hyperfocus colliding with distractions and forgetfulness. A perfect, yet sometimes impossible match!
An ADHD perspective on books can relate to themes, representation, characters, technical issues and many other facets, all affecting the ADHD experience while reading.
The community
This publication sprang from online communities by the same name active on Facebook, Discord and (e𝕏-)Twitter. Do join us there, too! These are the places to share the joys and horrors of reading (or listening, touching, or “consuming” texts in any way) with ADHD, rants and lots of support.
The community involves not only readers but also writers, parents, teachers, librarians, readers with other neurodivergence or other reading differences — anyone with an interest in reading with ADHD.
This publication allows for longer, in-depth discussions, tips, book reviews and stories related to reading with ADHD.
Why “Cozy”?
As I see it, it is the freedom to be comfortable being ourselves:
- Free to read whatever we like, in whichever format we like
- Free to read as many books as we like at once, at any speed
- Free not to read at all for any period, for whichever reason
- Free to be inconsistent, miss and forget
- Free to be who we are, be it people with ADHD, another neurodivergence, Black, White, gay, straight, trans, cis, atheist, religious, right-wing, left-wing, Russian, Ukrainian, Palestinian, Israeli — for us to enjoy the freedom to be ourselves, we must grant it upon others, too. Everyone is welcome who welcomes everyone else! 💙
That last item is the reason for this rebranding and relaunching. In the past year, hatred and violence were normalized throughout the political spectrum, which irreparably damaged my ability to trust people. This made it hard to create connections and build a community.
But this reluctance, this avoidance, this fear, are not my true self, nor who I want to be.
Rebranding is my attempt to form a community based on kindness, no less than on shared neurology and interest. We deserve this! 💙
