4 Things To Do Before You Get Started with Video Marketing
Whoa! Wait, slow down…
I know that you’re excited to start using video to grow your business. But there are some things we need to do before you make or order that first video.
SET YOUR VIDEO MARKETING GOALS
There’s a reason you want to use video marketing in your small business, right. Do you want to…
- generate new leads and connect with new potential customers?
- create a strong brand?
- be seen as an expert in your niche?
- make more money?
- spread the word about your brand? … or something else?
When you jump into the wonderful world of video marketing, you’re going to have so many options!
Setting goals helps you decide what you’ll do first with the time, money, and resources that you have available. So stop right now, grab a piece of paper and jot down some goals.
DECIDE ON YOUR TARGET VIEWER
Your video content should always be created FOR someone. Most often, it’s for your current and potential customers. But videos can also be created for employees, partners, investors, and the community, just to name a few.
I’m going to take a leap and assume you want more customers. In order to create video content that appeals to your customers is to know them — know everything about them.
Okay, not everything. That would be creepy.
But when it comes to your products and services, the problems you solve, and the value you create, strive to know as much as possible. Creating and maintaining an up-to-date customer persona can really help you here.
MAKE A LIST OF QUESTIONS, PROBLEMS & OBSTACLES
Like I previously said, create content for your target customer. The easiest way to do this is to think of questions, problems, and obstacles your customer might have when thinking to buy a product or service like yours.
There are a number of ways to find questions. Here’s some methods that I like to use:
- mine Quora for questions around your product or service
- interact with your customers regularly and keep track of what they ask you
- browse through old emails for questions you’ve answered in the past
- look through your blog comments
- search Google for “questions about ____” …
Compile all those questions into a master list. Then start from that list when you create new video content.
