‘Giving Tuesday’ a Great Start to the Holiday Season

Thanksgiving is the start of holiday season and over the last two weeks, many athletes and sports orgnizations have kicked off the season by giving back to their communities.

The NFL announced that they would take part in the ‘My Cause, My Cleats’ campaign in which more than 800 players will wear cleats during weeks 13–15 that bring attention to notable causes that are important to them. Major League Baseball also had many teams and players take part in the special day, starting with the Cincinnati Reds helping to support youth baseball and softball players and superstars like David Ortiz, Albert Pujols and Jose Altuve getting involved in their communities through their organizations.

The Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation got involved by offering to match grants up to $25,000 for each of five non-profit organizations in the D.C. area. The five non-profits that MSE will match donations with range from education to youth sports to mental and social health.

The holiday season is just beginning and ‘Giving Tuesday’ was a great start, with some great examples of athletes and other members of the sports community getting involved and giving back to their own communities.
