Comp How-To: Find Image Files

One of the coolest things about Comp is how it connects to your Creative Cloud Libraries. All your assets are accessible from within our app — you just need to know where to look.

This handy guide gives you a step-by-step about what’s located in each menu option under the Shapes and Image icons in the top nav bar.

We’ll work our way through each option offered in the dropdown menu, with a bit more context about when and why you might use each:

UNDER THE GRAPHICS ICON:

  • On my Device:

This will bring up your device’s OS with local pictures. If you know the graphic you need exists on your iPad or iPhone, scroll through this section to find what you’re looking for; it’s organized in the same way as the device’s native Photos app (think Photo Stream, Moments, Panoramas, Screenshots, etc., along with Instagram and any other programs you’ve synced).

The awesome thing about this instant access is that we know that your mobile devices often act as an archive and active repository for reference material — whether it’s a pic snapped on the street, or an outtake from a photoshoot — and now it can be included in your layouts with a quick tap and scroll.

  • Take a Photo:

Designing on the go? Snap a pic in real time, and you can drop it directly into your document, exactly where you want it. (Let’s see a pen and scratchpad do that!)

  • My Files:

Here you’ll find all the assets from your personal Adobe Creative Cloud account, organized by individual app and platform. Tap the Files icon in the top middle nav, and you’ll see a pulldown menu; you can also sort alphabetically by tapping the More icon in the upper left nav, or search by file name.

  • From Market:

All of the images in the Creative Cloud Market are free (free!!) with a Creative Cloud subscription — a fantastic of visuals resource across an incredible range of styles and topics.

  • Adobe Stock:

Here you’ll find the Adobe Stock browser: All of the images in this section are watermarked, and available for purchase. (Note! You must have an Adobe Stock subscription prior to purchasing/licensing an asset. Sign-up here: stock.adobe.com) Clicking on an image will allow you to either Save Preview — this will be copied to your Creative Cloud Library via a dropdown menu, and will also place a watermarked version into your layout — or to License Asset, which immediately removes the watermark and gives you full access.

And now, moving along the nav bar…

UNDER THE SHAPES ICON:

  • My Library:

Here you’ll find shapes that you’ve created in Adobe Capture, the mobile app that allows you to turn any image into a color theme, pattern, unique brush, Look, or vector graphic. (It’s really freaking cool — if you haven’t tried it out yet, go for it!)

And there you go! That should help clarify where are your Creative Cloud files are kept within Comp, and how to access them when you want them.

We’ve got more to show you from awesome folks using the app in awesome ways coming up soon. In the meantime…
