My favourite music of 2015

It was such a wonderful year for music. There were many great premieres of songs that moved us and which we kept singing/humming to throughout the whole days and months.

Here’s my personal list of best albums/EPs/songs this year in a random order. Let’s go!

Madeon — Adventure

I can say that Madeon is one of my favourite artists. I really like his style and also his personality. He’s smart, funny, always nice to other people and his fans. (We even had a small talk through e-mail and we talked on Reddit once)

First single from Adventure, You’re On was really promising, but when Madeon premiered Pay No Mind, something changed. It really moved me.
It’s such a happy, uplifting song. Turned out to be my most played song this year (I’m not ever surprised, I was smashing it on a constant replay literally all the time, I was so addicted to it). Madeon did an amazing job on that!

Can’t say enough about quality of this album, it’s great, you should definitely check it out!

Zedd — True Colors

I was a bit afraid that Zedd would disappoint me. But he did a really good job on his album. The production is top notch and he managed to keep his style within every song he made to be there. It made my summer a lot more positive for sure. “Beautiful Now” is amazing and I had that one on a repeat for a long time too. Another recommendation from me!

Alesso — Forever

Another good album from a producer I admire. Some songs are electronic and some could be categorized as pop, but I don’t mind because Alesso makes great melodies that everyone loves no matter in which genre the song is.
I had goosebumps when I first heard that light vocoder effect on vocals during breakdown in “Sweet Escape”. Well done Alesso, well done…

Porter Robinson — Worlds (Remixed)

When Porter Robinson dropped “Worlds” in 2014, it changed everything. At least for me. That album was so good. It took you from one place to another for an amazing journey. I got really excited after hearing that there’s going to be a remixed version. It’s worth checking, but you need to listen to the original one first! You’ll thank me later! (̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶r̶u̶i̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶l̶i̶f̶e̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶r̶e̶p̶l̶a̶y̶i̶n̶g̶)̶

Avicii — Stories

I was kinda disappointed with the album in the beginning. But I needed to accept that Avicii turned pop and enjoy new songs somehow. It wasn’t easy, but Stories isn’t actually that bad. It’s worth a listen, even if it was the last one.

In my opinion it’s not better than his previous album “True” from 2013, but some songs are good actually. I’m talking about “City Lights” for example. You should check it and judge for yourself if you like it or not. Just do it!

Armin van Buuren — Embrace

I’m not even going to compare this album to his previous one, “Intense” (check that one, it’s really good), but I will say that “Embrace” is nice, even for a person who loved his previous work and especially mentioned “Intense” album so much. “Strong Ones” is a good song for example. “Hands to Heaven”, “Gotta Be Love”, “Heading Up High”. Those all are incredible songs. I hate that he put his collaboration with Hardwell — “Off the Hook” on the album, which is awful in my opinion and doesn’t fit the whole atmosphere, but it was his decision. You should check the album at least for the good part!

Galantis – Pharmacy

Galantis are so unique in my opinion. Their sound, especially the vocal processing is so different from most of songs we hear nowadays. I also love their abstract artworks. The overall feeling of the album is nice. It’s a happy album, very optimistic and cheerful. “Peanut Butter Jelly” is so catchy, but it’s only one of many good songs there. Can’t be sad when listening. Get it!

Saint Asonia — Saint Asonia

Self-titled album from a new band, called Saint Asonia. I really enjoyed that one, even though some people could find it too hard for their ears. (Although songs like “Waste My Time” and “Leaving Minnesota” are mostly acoustic and really easy for everyone’s ears I suppose.) There’s so much energy in this album, so much power. Songs like “Dying Slowly”, “Let Me Live My Life” and many others, they’re all amazing. I don’t quite remember the last time I got so excited because of a rock band and their new album (except for Three Days Grace, but I’ll mention them soon). Maybe it’s because the vocalist here is Adam Gontier (he used to be lead vocalist of Three Days Grace). I love his voice. I missed it so much since he left TDG. Good to hear you again Adam!

Three Days Grace — Human

There’s so much to say about Three Days Grace. We had a really hard time lately. When Adam Gontier used to be in the band, I loved them. I was completely lost in their music and I could listen to it for hours and hours.

When Adam left and a new vocalist joined the band, I was really afraid. I couldn’t imagine TDG without him at that point, because of his great voice.
But the band kept going and released first single from “Human” — “Painkiller” and after listening to it multiple times I thought it wasn’t that bad. Not bad at all. After the next single, “I Am Machine”, I started to like the new vocalist. That was necessary to move on. His voice is kind of nice, too. When “Human” premiered, I was so hyped, but I found the album a bit too repetitive comparing to their previous ones. But well, it’s good. Check it anyway.

Papa Roach — F.E.A.R.

Firstly, I absolutely love the artwork. It’s beautiful. It’s atmospheric. It’s cool.
I also really like Papa Roach. Their previous album was pure gold for me. Some people could find it too hard, but the energy that comes with all those songs is incredible, it’s something that makes you want to do something positive straight away. When it comes to songs, “Falling Apart” for example is so so so good. The album isn’t better than the last one, but it’s worth checking!

Audien — Daydreams EP

First EP on my list here. I love Audien. I love his big and full sounds. His melodies are nice, too. “Something Better” is amazing. There’s no other word for it, although I feel like I’m using this word a bit too much in this post. I was listening to it much. Sometimes too much. You should do the same!

Televisor — Venture EP

I don’t know what to say about this EP. It’s so good. My sounds of the summer. “Find That Someone” is so catchy. Can’t go wrong with listening to this one. Check it out for sure, his production is at a very high level!

Dillon Francis — This Mixtape is Fire

It really is. Trust me. Oh, this EP reminds me of summer so much. Moreover, “Coming Over” with Kygo is brilliant! You will have this one on a repeat for a long time. Don’t worry, I was in the same situation!

Paris Blohm — In Your Eyes EP

Well. This is just amazing. I fell in love with “In Your Eyes” immediately after hearing it for the very first time. But it doesn’t end here. Experimental Rework of this track is just… you need to check it for yourself, because words can’t describe that. It’s in style of Porter Robinson, but is that bad? Sure not!

I’ll now mention some great songs and remixes without describing them further, I hope you’ll have time to listen and maybe like some of them. I would be really happy with that.

I know I’ve forgotten something. There were many more great songs in 2015 for sure, I just haven’t mentioned them here. I’ll try to add more of them soon if I recall some new. If you’re looking for more, my Faded Silhouettes podcast would be a good place to start. If you want to check my music from this year, you’re welcome.

Thank you for reading, I’m curious about your favourite albums and songs from this year, share them in comments! Let’s see what 2016 brings! I can’t wait to hear all those new sounds!
