While hiking and camping can be a beautiful and leisurely experiences, it’s also magical and life affirming. The hiking trail has more to do with the journey to discover oneself than it has to do with the destination itself. Nature is mankind’s best classroom, join us on a hike as it teaches us a few life lessons en route.

It’s important to slow down once in a while and enjoy the little things in life. You will find a number of different gems of nature on the way. Stay in the moment, click a picture, breathe in the fresh air. It’s the journey that’s more important than the destination. It’s not about how fast you get there, but the experiences on the way that count.

We give our work top priority, ignoring social relationships such as friends and family who are actually our biggest support system. A hike is the best way to bond with your loved ones. You need to work as a team to get through your hike, helping each other to put up the tents, light a fire, cook food and not to forget the fun activities like sitting around a bonfire and reminiscing about old times. You will face a number of obstacles on your journey, it’s up to you and your friends to work as a team and overcome them to reach your goal.

Step out of your comfort zone

It’s important to step outside your comfort zone to enjoy new experiences. Your comfort zone, although warm and cozy, acts as a boundary wall limiting you to a few good experiences. According to a psychological study, a comfort zone is an area where you have a steady, constant or comfortable level of performance. In order to maximise your performance, however, you need to be in a state of optimal anxiety which you can achieve by leaving your comfort zone. By coming out of your comfort zone you’ll be more productive, find it easier to deal with change and push your boundaries.

All you need are the Basics

In this technological age, we have become too dependent on gadgets and gizmos to survive. Hungry? We have an app for that! Need directions? We have an app for that! We even have app’s to remind us to drink water. Get back to the basics, everything you could possibly need can be found in nature. You don’t a high voltage power bank or even a smartphone. All you need are the basics, air, food, water and shelter. It’s only once you get free of technology when you realise that all you need are the bare necessities of life that you could fit into your backpack.

Find the true meaning of Peace

Due to stress and strenuous work routines, it’s easy for us to forget to take some time for ourselves and get some peace of mind. Hiking affords you the opportunity for some much-needed therapy, as you surround yourself with nature forgetting all your problems and just concentrating on the basic essence of life.

Get back up

There will always be times when you’re tired, thirsty and feel like giving up. When the trail seems longer than it did 5 minutes ago, it’s important to stay positive. Silence the tiny voice in your head telling you to give up. You are so close to your destination, don’t give up now. Don’t waste your energy on projecting your frustration. Instead, harness that energy to get you closer to your destination with every little step. It’s important to keep your team and yourself motivated to complete what you have started.

After hours of struggling on the trail, you finally reach your destination. Take some time to sit and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Nothing good ever comes easy. Whether it’s hiking to the top of a mountain or working hard to make your deadline, in the end, it’s all worth it. At the end of your hike, you will have a new appreciation for life and nature while the majestic view from your destination leaves you humbled.
