Ski trips may not be quite the rage in India as they are abroad. But North India definitely has the facilities to deal with your love for snow!

Winter is almost here and it’s the perfect time to hit the slopes. Guess what? This sport is not just super fun to participate in and take pictures of, it’s also got health benefits attached.

Weight loss

Won’t it be great to go on a holiday and surprise your frenemies by returning a couple of kilos lighter?

An hour of skiing can burn anywhere between 400–600 calories for an average adult. During an average skiing day, the calorie burnt count is around 3000.

So a week’s ski holiday can help you lose around 3–5 pounds! Isn’t that awesome?

Cardio

Benefits of Skiing

If you hate sweat, this is a great way to get some cardio. If you’re neutral about sweat, this is a great way to get some cardio. No one loves sweat, really.

As you speed down high altitude slopes, or use your energy to walk around in the heavy snow, your heart will be pumping and your blood flow will be excellent condition! Also, even carrying your skis to the top is exercise for your heart, especially in the cold weather.

Sexy Legs

Don’t underestimate the power of simple skis! Skiing puts you in constant crouching position. It is quite a workout for your inner and outer thighs, quads, glutes and hamstrings. The beautiful surroundings and focus needed may distract you from the burn. But boy! Will you feel it the next day!

It also helps strengthens your knees and joints. If you suffer from any joint ailments, it is an excellent choice for exercise. This is because it’s relatively low impact as opposed to running or other land-based sports.

Healthy eating and hydration

All your meals during a ski trip will be eaten to give you the energy to fuel, refuel and recuperate. It’s highly likely that you’ll become conscious of your food intake, increasing proteins and carbs, and cutting down unhealthy fats and junk food.

Also, the weather out there is bound to make you feel thirsty and encourage you to increase your water intake.

A ski trip can be an ideal opportunity to develop long-term healthy habits.

Muscular strength

Benefits of Skiing

You’ll have those sexy sculpted legs when you’re done, no doubt. But the sport also benefits almost every major muscle group. Balancing, turning and manoeuvring needs some core work. Thrusting forward and carrying your skis around will definitely work those arms. So you’ll be working on getting a killer core and arms as you have a blast!

Sound sleep

After an exhausting day on the slopes, there’s no way you’ll have the energy to stay awake until midnight scrolling through your phone. Maybe you’ll even drift off to sleep to the very first song you listen to or before you finish the first page of your book. And this sleep will be good.

Disturbed sleep usually occurs because even though you’re turning off your body, your mind continues to remain in a state of hyperactivity. But an exhausting sport like skiing makes sure that both your body and mind get a good night’s rest.
