What Hemingway, Batman, and Rocky III Have In Common
Have you ever had to start over from the beginning? Did you ever make a mistake and pay the price?
You’re not alone.
- Ernest Hemingway once lost a suitcase filled with all of his writing.
- Batman had to learn to walk again after Bane broke his back.
- Rocky had to learn to fight from Apollo Creed after Mr. T took his title.
- I once deleted 5 years of travel photos from my adventures around the world.
Starting over is hard. Most can relate to the struggle of having to rebuild from nothing and understand the magnitude of strength and will it takes. There are so many areas in life that can be reset at any given moment: the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or losing your wallet.
During a particularly bad time in my life a very good friend of mine reminded me of Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If”. The poem is 149 word instruction manual of wisdom. It’s easy to forget Kipling’s advice in times of distress, but a reminder is always worth it.
If you made a mistake and are starting over or simply having a bad day, check out this video of a young Dennis Harper reading “If” on the Johnny Cash show.
Please feel free to share with anyone you may know that is restarting or just needs some motivation!
