BBQ in Busan

There were a lot of good meals in South Korea and a lot of different foods to try but without a doubt, the best food we had in South Korea was the BBQ. After our first excellent taste, we all wanted to have more. What’s interesting about Korean BBQ is that the meat comes without any sauces and all the flavours are added after the tender meat bits have been cooked.

I particularly enjoyed the charcoal grills and the shop keepers often replaced the grills with new ones when too much burnt crumb had accumulated. Usually, a small piece of meat is dipped in sweet and spicy sauces and placed on a piece of lettuce. A salad of radish and green onions is added and the whole combination is eaten as a sort of roll. It is quite good and in my opinion, beats eating the meat alone. Each restaurant seems to do this dish differently which is even better.

In Korea it can be difficult to find good fresh beef as the most popular meat ins pork belly. That is also good tasty because of the fat but less enjoyable for us to eat.

One restaurant we found in Daegu had people that cooked the meat for us. It was a cool experience, one that I took more video than photos.

So the moral of the story: when in Korea, eat lots of BBQ!
