MacBook Air — Apple

At this year's WWDC event, alongside updates to all of their major operating systems: iOS, macOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, Apple announced a newly designed MacBook Air and MacBook Pro which will feature Apple’s newest silicon: M2. Apple has also announced that the MacBook will support 20 hours of video playback. Here is everything you need to know about Apple’s latest computer.

M2

M2 is the second generation of the M series chip architecture and significantly improves upon M1 which is found in other MacBook Air models. “With industry-leading power efficiency, a unified memory architecture, and custom technologies, this new chip brings even more performance and capabilities to Apple’s most popular Mac notebooks,” comments Apple. M2 packs a next-generation 8-core CPU which allows for improvement in performance and efficiency cores, along with GPU that has up to 10 cores. With 100GB/s of unified memory bandwidth as well as up to 24GB of fast unified memory significantly larger workloads can be managed.

Redesign

The new MacBook Air is just 11.3 mm thin and weighs 2.7 pounds (1.23Kg). An aluminum unibody enclosure means the device is extremely durable and built to last whilst still having a 20% reduction in volume. It will be available in four different finishes: silver, space grey, starlight, and midnight. Magsafe charging makes a return to the MacBook Air. There will be two thunderbolt ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Touch ID and a force touch trackpad are also featured.

13.6-inch Liquid Retina Display, 1080p Display & 4 Speaker System

The 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display has been expanded to the sides and up and around the camera to give a larger display and smaller bezels. The display has 500 nits of brightness making it 25% brighter to its predecessor. The display will also have support for 1 billion colors.

The front-facing camera has been upgraded from 720p to 1080p and there is a much improved four-speaker sound system.
