The machine in the man: Pure AI content production and a botnet to replace the internet

Over the last few years, I’ve talked a lot about both the potential for and implication of fully-autonomous content creation — that media produced entirely by artificial intelligence and machine learning — a picture of which has been clearly painted by large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI’s GPT-3 and DALL-E 2. Pun intended there!
I wanted to synthesize more of that herein, in light of recent accelerations in the field…

Early last year, a presentation by Applied Materials observed that, as of 2018, “semi[conductor] growth [was] no longer limited by human consumption”. At the time, I quipped:
