In contrast to iOS 7, many can overlook iOS 8 as the not so big update. With latest WWDC and the iPhone 6 announcement, iOS 8 makes 7 look more ascetic than practical. Features like, quick reply to iMessage, Handoff with OS X Yosemite and iOS 8 to name a few. These minor but radical changes are really what the future holds for not only apple but the entire apple developer community.

The iOS 8 release is the now, third-party app extensions is the future

As Apple discussed at WWDC, imagine taking that quick photo you always wanted to take with the native camera app rather than have to dive around your home screen trying to find the right photo app to best suit the subject of the photo. May that be Instagram, VSCO Cam, Litely. No matter, that moment you wanted to capture is now gone. Thanks to the amazing tools in reach for those developers that experience can come quicker than you could imagine. Think about taking that same photo with iOS 8 in the near future. You were able to snap it just on time without the hassle of the app. Instead you now can edit that photo in real time with all the filters and options from those apps you so desire without having to stray from the native camera on iOS. That is just one of the many ways developers can broaden their app, be fully intergrated and effecient into iOS.

Homekit, The Future Paradigm Of Tech

Not only does iOS 8 third party app extentions sound great for developers and consumers. HomeKit, Healthkit and Watchkit are just fledglings ready to soar. Bill Gates has always had a smart home because not only has Microsoft been working on making it possible to the average comsumer but he himself uses one. With HomeKit, This very well be the answer that just couldn’t have been excuted without the help of Smartphones and Wearables. Just imagine, long day at work you approach your door, rather than bother with getting the keys out. You can actually hold your Apple Watch or iPhone to the doorknob and it will automatically open up thanks to Touch ID intergration with the lock system in the door. Step inside your home and immedately your lights come on thanks to the smart light systems in your home and the tracking of your iPhone or Watch signaling your home. You sit down at your desk and recieve an email on your iPhone but you happen to be sitting down at your iMac. Using Handoff will instantly pull up that exact email and allow you to read and reply from your iMac rather than have to do it by iPhone. Ready to leave for a jog and just finished setting up a playlist? No problem, Handoff iTunes to your iPhone or Watch and as you walk out your home the doors lock and your lights are off. This is just a fragment of what is to come for these tools that developers have. This could become a household revolution.

Regardless, we all must wait and watch things unfold for iOS 8 but I am hopeful for what the future of iOS may hold.
