After making a few brief stops in Kazakhstan and Dubai last week, I’ve finally made it home a week ago — home sweet home!I thought that I’d be able to get another couple of posts about the last few weeks out once I’m back, but it feels quite different trying to write it back home in my apartment sitting on my chair — almost as if I’m writing about somebody else’s experiences. ¶ However, I did want to wrap this up with a BIG BIG thank you to some people that have really made the trip what it was. This is somewhat of an off-topic post, but it addresses something that I have thought about numerous times over the last 6 months.Whenever you consider a decision to travel to any country, be it Tajikistan, India, Nepal or anyplace else, you obviously take a lot of factors into consideration on whether it’s a safe place to travel to or not. ¶ There is only so much info that you can get from your friends and acquintances, as I noticed that people views on countries are often shaped by very random things. The last few days, I’ve been starting to feel somewhat like Tom Hanks in “The Terminal”, where he found up stuck in the airport for weeks…because of some issues in his country. You know that you’re spending too much time in transit when the people working in various cafes in the airport start to recognize you because you’re there so frequently and you judge the airports based on how comfortable the chairs are for sleeping and whether they have good Wi-Fi. The only thing missing from spending last two days in the Kuala Lumpur airport was a poker game with the janitorial staff in the middle of the night over lost-and-found goods.Boris MordkovichJun 14, 2009

Public Transportation is Not For the Claustrophobic
As I was sitting down to write this, I was kind of torn — should I even be writing about something as mundane as the transportation system…? After all, I’ve never really gave much thought to, say, the MTA in New York and certainly never had a desire to write about it. ¶ But I think that the way of getting around in Dushanbe, and Tajikistan in general, has a few differences from what we are typically used to… ¶ Public Transportation — Buses & Trolleys ¶ So, Dushanbe — being the capital — is pretty well connected. Before I started my 7 month trip, I kind of figured that I’d have no trouble keeping myself busy during the weekdays, as I’d be working…… ¶ Before I started my 7 month trip, I kind of figured that I’d have no trouble keeping myself busy during the weekdays, as I’d be working full time.
