Speck: Chapter 1 — The Program

Outer space is a void where great distances are visualized through it. Although travel can be attained at the speed of light, the time to reach another world would take thousands of years…

…unless there is another way to travel…. faster than the speed of light.

From the first waking moment of my sleep, I detected a humm. Not discerning much, but that hum…that mono-tone note, created a link that connected my brain and stirred my awareness that I had awakened from a deep sleep. A most unexpected call to me. It brought me to an awareness. That I am.

I was part of a world project that had taken 200 volunteers, placed each into a cryo-hibernation state, and jettisoned off through an ion canon positioned in outer space in different directions from our Earth, to make contact with other forms of intelligent life. Mankind on earth was flourishing. The Scientific community wanted to tell their story. They had sent satellites and radar messages. But, with no results. Then, they decided to send two hundred space capsules, each consisting of a single human being with limited resources, designed with sensing devices that would activate the de-hibernation process, jettison rockets to slow the near light speed, and descend unto the planet/moon.
