The prerequisites for becoming a watersport instructor are expertise in swimming, and a minimum of one week’s ‘dinghy’ and ‘wind surfing’ experience (required experience may vary depending upon the sport). What Does An Instructor Do :

As an instructor, you would be required to carry out training drills depending on the type of the sport. For a sailing instructor, demonstrating boat handling and sailing techniques, for a rafting instructor, demonstrating the use of ‘oar’ and body weight balancing, for a diving instructor, demonstrating underwater sign language and use of breathing techniques. Other than that, instructors can also be required to asses their student’s abilities, recording and reporting accidents, and performing maintenance of the equipment. However, safety being the major concern, the instructors are also required to accompany their protege for supervision while the sports are actually being performed, hence they can enjoy the voyage every now and then.

Given the positive outlook for tourism in the mentioned report, pursuing a career can be a good option. However, tourism industry is vulnerable to economic downturns such as ‘recession’. Water sports are seasonal activities, hence it is a good option for part-time job seekers. However, aspirants willing to get a full-time job have to be flexible in performing different water sports and move to locations in different countries according to their seasonal requirements.
