Saad Shamon straightened his tie and button his jacket. He looked at himself in the mirror. His jet black hair was slicked back and neatly trimmed beard oiled and combed. His black Tom Ford suit complemented his thin, but muscular frame. He checked his watch, a vintage Rolex Submariner, and saw it was five minutes before 8 P.M. He would have dinner with his wife Amira at their favorite restaurant on the rooftop of their luxury condominium building one last time. The next evening, they would be transported to the Damascus airport to fly to Atlanta, where they would begin preparations to to undergo their long-awaited Arete transformations.

“Saad, darling.”

Amira Shamon stood in the doorway to their dressing room. Her long black hair fell over her bare olive shoulders and draped gently over her red, sleeveless gown.

“Yes my love? You look gorgeous.”

Amira did not smile, but held up an envelope. “This was just delivered by a man from Krager. He said it was urgent.”

Saad walked forward and took the envelope. He pulled out a letter and a vial containing two pills.

“Dear Mr. and Mrs. Shamon. I hope this letter finds you both well and that you are prepared for your journey to the United States. As a precaution for your travel, the Arete team is…
