WHEN POLITICIANS BECAME CRYPTOCURRENCIES

We shared last week on how online meme culture evolved to meme-based cryptocurrencies. As staggering as it sounded, politicians from all around the globe are also dipping their toe into the crypto arena. Join Aenco this week for another X-files indulgence: Politician-based Cryptocurrency.

1. TRUMP COIN

TrumpCoin has a history that goes back to 2016, when the now US President-elected Donald J. Trump was running for 45th Presidency of The United States of America. TrumpCoin is currently ranked 1307 and its market cap is about $206,213 USD. TrumpCoin is said to be used “for the support of the Trump administration to ‘Make America Great Again’” (read TrumpCoin FAQ for more information).

TrumpCoin denounces their association with Donald Trump and his affiliates, although many suspect it otherwise. In the website, it is also said that TrumpCoin is supporting President Trump in his fight against fake news, corruption

2. PutinCoin

“PutinCoin was created to pay tribute to the people and the president of one of the largest and greatest country in the world: Russia!” — PutinCoin Official Website

Russia is always there when it comes to competing against the US. Apart from t-shirts, calendars and consumer products that are made using Putin’s face, PutinCoin is yet another example signifying the popularity of Vladimir Putin in and, arguably, beyond Russia.

PutinCoin is currently ranked at 1522 with an 80.89K USD market cap. Also as a gesture to support the national political regime, PutinCoin “was created to pay tribute to the people and the president of one of the largest and greatest country in the world: Russia!” and “to support the very fast-growing Russian economy and market within the country and beyond its borders.

3. Theresa May Coin

“Theresamaycoin is open-source; its design is public, nobody owns or controls Theresamaycoin and everyone can take part.” — Theresa May Coin Official Website

Another internationally-eminent political giant, Theresa May, also the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdoms, got to become a cryptocurrency since 17th May, 2017. Theresa May Coin ranked approximately 1752 and is now worth $27,452 USD market cap.

However, no body knows exactly what Theresa May Coin is aiming at, especially since the official website looks half-way finished: but it does proclaim that “through many of its unique properties, Theresamaycoin allows exciting uses that could not be covered by any previous payment system.”

SIGNIFICANCE OF POLITICIAN CRYPTOCURRENCIES

One topic related to the involvement of political leaders in cryptocurrencies is unregulated funding/ donations to political campaigns. Just earlier in October, Japanese government has stated that cryptocurrency donations to individual politicians are not regulated. Agatha Bacelar, Democratic candidate of the U.S. Congress in San Francisco, also stated that she is accepting cryptocurrency donations for her campaign. This could be a growing trend across the globe.
