Long story short: We got tired of interviewing developers, so we decided to challenge them instead.

Here’s the deal:

We’ve got a bunch of amazing designers churning out kick-ass products like crazy, and we need some more developers to make them happen.

We’re having a hard time finding developers with the proper set of skills and expertise required to build our products. It might have to do with how we’ve not been effective at communicating that Aerolab doesn’t simply design awesome stuff, we build it too.

So, our bad. And here’s a shout-out to all developers out there: Aerolab is building an amazing Dev Team, and we want you on it.

In order to get the word out in style, we decided to launch a Coding Challenge for all those interested in testing out their skillset, while competing for some pretty neat rewards in the process.

The challenge itself is a spin-off of the actual challenge we give Devs when they’re about to join the team. The gist of it is that we supply them with the base design for a product catalog where the user can redeem products in exchange for points, and ask that they build it in whichever way they see fit.

There’s a series of requirements for approval, but other than that we invite contestants to add any interactions or layers of complexity that they feel would make the product better.

There’s no requirement for the tech stack, just a few sugestions. We want Devs to blow us away, so we’ll definitely award points for innovation.

In case you need a hand in getting your site to go live, we’ve written a short article to help you out 👇

We’ll reward the best three solutions, ranked based on the criteria we talked about earlier, as well as on Efficiency, Visuals, and Innovation.

The third prize is a gift card for Bookdepository, because there are no sweeter words in the english language than “free shipping worldwide”.

The second prize is a pair of JBL headphones, so you can tune out to your coding tunes of choice.

The top prize is two-in-one, and it’s aimed at letting you put your creativity to use and make your wildest ideas come true. First up you’ll get a Raspberry Pi 3, so you can build pretty much whatever is on your mind. And last, but not least, you’ll get a year-long Premium Subscription to Zeit.co’s cloud computing services, so you can get your ideas off of your mind and out to the web.

Props to Zeit for hooking us up, by the way. 💪

We’ll keep you posted on what comes out of this experiment, so stay tuned!

👾 So, what do you say? Are you up for the challenge? ✨
