Emin Mahrt spent the past two years first as Chief Operation Officer, and later as Chief Product Officer for æternity, making sure progress was consistent and seamless across all development teams working on the different facets of the platform.

We are happy to announce that he is joining the aeternity foundation as a Member of the Board, and we are expecting a rapid acceleration of the ecosystem.

æternity went through the contribution campaign and immediately focused on delivering on all of its promises. We had to seriously streamline task planning and form a stellar technical team. We then tapped on more experts to contribute towards finalizing the platform.

The æternity team has delivered on its promises. Now we’re ready to go beyond those promises. The Mainnet has launched and the next goal is to make the platform sustainable for a very, very long time — for eternity. [Emin]

What does this transition mean for the æternity community?

All future development efforts are going to become way more open, way more public, way more transparent.

The charitable aeternity foundation will focus on supporting and sustaining the whole ecosystem by providing a wide variety of grant opportunities and donations. Of course starting with open source software development — the protocol is open source, the Wællet, the SDKs, API Server are all open source products.

This opens up the doors for every one in the world who wants to participate in shaping æternity. For the first time, a lot of people can work on a global scale together, be in contact, exchange things, and do business with each other — in a completely new way that was not possible before. [Emin]

People who are interested in getting involved but are intimidated by a lack of technical capabilities shouldn’t be discouraged at all. Emin asserts that the blockchain industry isn’t exclusive to the technically adept — even non-techies are absolutely welcome, and highly encouraged to get involved. Blockchain technology is all about inclusion, after all.

Blockchain is way more than just a technical movement. It’s a real movement — a social movement.

People who are not technical but still understand or want to understand the advantages of blockchain technology could be the dreamers, visioners and innovators we need.

We need and welcome everyone who is coming up with ideas. Even a 160-word post on Twitter might shape the next real big thing, and cause a real big change that catapults the use of this technology to the next level.

Anyone who isn’t technical but still understands the basics should not hold back with ideas of what you could do with this technology. There are a lot of experiments, not only in governance but also in finance, collaboration applications, in gambling, and gaming — you see it everywhere. Everybody — including non-technical people should just shout out all the ideas they have, whatever they think should be done with this technology.

It is very important to understand why we are here right now — there was a vision and an idea for a public good.

Everything that gets created by the æternity community right now is completely license-free. Everybody can use it, everybody can modify it, and take it as their own. They can even make a for-profit business out of it, change it. They can literally do whatever they want.

On September 20–21, the æternity community is launching æternity Universe One, the first-ever major event focusing on the æternity network — applications, features, and opportunities that await everyone who want to build projects and business on the platform. The conference will be held in the popular hacker space Paralelní Polis in Prague, Bohemia.

To further drive the inclusion point home and encourage people from all walks of life to join the community, æternity is also giving free tickets to those who cannot afford it.

People should not be afraid to apply for a free ticket. If you have a valid reason, like if you are a student and you’re super interested in blockchain technology but 100 bucks is a week’s worth of your groceries, it’s a fair thing to say we should help break down that roadblock for you. [Emin]

Ultimately, the æternity community is all excited to see everyone at the æternity Universe One conference in September. And if, for some reason, you really can’t make it, you are still absolutely welcome to join the community online. You have nothing to lose, and very much to gain.
