æternity’s SDK developers join forces for two-day intensive ‘Hack&Play’ session in Berlin

Expect an influx of sample codes soon.

æternity’s SDK developers — a league of 8 seasoned programmers, gathered together in Berlin on November 21 and 22 to test the SDKs for æternity blockchain. The two-day event, called Hack&Play, was hosted by Ape Unit — a multidisciplinary and inclusive network of creators, strategists, developers and designers in Berlin.

“Together, we put all our efforts for a two-day hackathon, choosing from a set of applications scenarios and testing our SDK’s for the the æternity blockchain,” narrates Andrea Giacobino, SDK developer for æternity.

SDK’s for æternity are available in common programming languages: JavaScript, Python, Go, and Elixir, which makes it very accessible and user-friendly for developers both in and out of the blockchain space.

The Hack&Play session aims to test æternity’s SDKs from the perspective of developers who are using them to build applications from scratch.

Erlang and Elixir developer Daniela Ivanova and the rest of æternity’s developers see this perspective as an essential vantage point to improve the SDKs even further.

“The point was to use the SDKs and see where they were lacking, problematic, or not very user-friendly — and to possibly fix them,” software engineer Shubhendu Shekhar explains.

æternity’s SDK devs played around with some sample proof of concept applications during these sessions, which also serve as demonstrations of æternity’s vast potential.

“We were testing our SDK’s functionalities and making new sample usages to demonstrate how powerful our SDK’s and æternity blockchain can be,” says JavaScript developer Nazar Duchak.

Here is a quick rundown of what went on at the two-day session.

The developers selected a few real world use cases to test a practical scenario and to leverage the cutting edge features that the æternity blockchain technology offers. Some examples of this are as follows:

• Proof of existence
  leveraging the technique described in the AEX-117
• Aggressive name bidding
  automating the name bidding process for AENS introduced in the LIMA release
• Name marketplace
  realizing a platform to buy/sell/exchanges registered names
• Atomic token swaps (ETH to AE)
  for cross-chain token swaps
• Pay Per Frame
  using state channels to simulate a business mode where a user is charged by the content consumption

“We also took this opportunity to collect the resources that are helpful for the development and start an awesome list for aeternity,” says Daniela Ivanova.
