Behind The Scenes: What’s Next For Affyn, The Affynian Community, and NEXUS World

Since its founding in 2021, Affyn has been a pioneer in web 3.0 technology. The company successfully launched 2 collections of NFT Buddies on Opensea as well as mobile brawler Buddy Arena in the Philippines and other markets.

Buddy Arena is set in NEXUS World, which maps out the real world through 33.9 billion land tiles, many of which were purchased by Affynian’s from the organization’s fast growing digital community.

As with any new technology, evangelization is as equally important as the innovation itself: Potential users must understand how web 3.0 works, what they can do with it, and and why these use cases matter.

With this in mind, we sat down with three leaders at the heart of Affyn’s marketing and community engagement: Marketing Project Manager Koh Qi Shan, Marketing Manager Sook Hui Ting, and Director of Community Relations Tammie Chew.

We spoke to them about working at Affyn and the development of the NEXUS World.

Q: What are the overall strengths of Affyn’s culture?

Sook: Affyn as a company has a very open and close-knit, family-like culture. Affyn values employees’ opinions and encourages an open feedback system for employees to speak up about anything, whether it is about our product, marketing and design, or even work processes. This makes employees feel valued as our voices are heard, which is very important because we are part of the target audience of our product.

Q: How has the marketing team contributed to the revamped focus on product development over the last few weeks?

Sook: The marketing department has taken the lead on most company strategies and efforts, even going so far as to redefine our overall goals and objectives. As such, we are conscientiously and meticulously curating our product and design based on the market’s wants, needs, and industry trends. As part of this approach, we have developed workflows with less red tape, allowing us to ensure that we produce a product of high quality and calibre, both functionally and aesthetically.

Q: Even though you cannot fully outline the product roadmap, can you give a teaser of what is to come?

Tammie: Without revealing specific details, envision a metaverse seamlessly blending the real and virtual worlds, with real world actions as one of the new steps that users can take. As our development progresses step-by-step, our focus remains on providing continuous value to our existing and future Affynians, capitalising on the opportunities presented by the upcoming crypto bull market. We will be sharing our plan in our upcoming Ask Me Anything in January, details of which will be announced soon.

Q: As someone who will be evangelising Affyn’s NEXUS World to users, what most excites you about its future?

Sook: I am extremely thrilled to provide users with an opportunity to transverse between the real and virtual world seamlessly, and to make this mainstream. Imagine being able to see your real life choices affecting you in the virtual world and vice versa, which is a connection that has never been effectively executed before.

With this feature coming to life, users can experience the virtual world without detracting from the time spent in the real world with their social circle: Affyn’s NEXUS World will be integral into everyone’s life.

Q: Why do you find your work marketing Affyn’s NEXUS World personally meaningful, especially in light of a wider culture that has recently been more dismissive of the metaverse?

Shan: I find great meaning in being part of a team that’s not just creating a virtual environment (i.e. the metaverse) but is laying the foundation for a new kind of shared reality. It’s a chance to redefine how we interact, socialise, and collaborate. In Nexus World, we’re not just building a metaverse; we’re creating a cultural shift, a digital evolution that mirrors our human need for connection and community. Despite the scepticism that occasionally surrounds the metaverse concept, my excitement stems from the belief that we are at the forefront of something revolutionary. We have the opportunity to challenge preconceptions, break down barriers, and introduce a new era of digital togetherness.

On a personal level, working at Affyn feels like being part of a movement rather than just a company. The prospect of creating a space where users can not only play-and-earn but also find a sense of belonging is genuinely inspiring. It’s more than a career — it’s a chance to contribute to a vision of a future where the metaverse is not just a trend but will be a fundamental part of our lives.

Q: One of your challenges as a marketer will be to differentiate the NEXUS World from other metaverses. What do you think is this point of differentiation, where the NEXUS World provides value that other metaverses do not?

Tammie: While examining existing metaverses, we observed a predominant focus on either gaming or limited integration with the real world. It often feels like users must choose between residing solely in the virtual or physical realm. For the NEXUS World, we are dedicated to seamlessly integrating the metaverse with the real world, enabling meaningful interactions beyond the digital landscape.

Additionally, we recognize that many popular metaverses primarily attract a younger demographic. While this demographic is receptive to new technologies, it often lacks substantial spending power. To ensure the sustainability and attractiveness of our metaverse to both users and merchants, we are targeting an older audience with greater disposable income. This strategic approach aims to accelerate our growth and establish a more robust and sustainable ecosystem.

Q: Why should Affynians continue to remain proud to be part of the Affyn commmunity?

Shan: There are many reasons! Here are a few highlights:

  1. The upcoming global launch of Buddy Arena will feature integrated Web 3.0 components and interoperability, which signifies Affyn’s commitment to staying at the forefront of industry trends.
