SA’s Education Dept To Make Maths Not Compulsory For High School — SAIPA Has This To Say!

How impotant in Mathematics for high school education? The South African department of education said, mathematics would no longer be a requirement for promotion from one class to another in south Africa.

SAIPA clarifies what effect this would have on the quality of accountants that the nation is producing and also how will this impact on the reputation of SA’s trained accountants globally.

The department clarified that pupils who passed all other subjects, but failed mathematics with a minimum mark of 20%, would be “condoned” and “would thus pass mathematics and pass the examination as a whole”.

The move was initiated after a task team was established in 2009 to investigate poor curriculum implementation in schools.
