Anthony Davis is one of the most Avant-Garde jazz musicians to have ever performed largely in part due to his classical background
“Sudden Death” (1979), by Anthony Davis is most influenced by Davis’ musical context, specifically his roots in European classical and jazz music. Davis writes scores as any classical composer would, meanwhile maintaining an abundance of collective improvisation and break solos within his work. This blend of classical and jazz influence provides the Avant-Garde sound Davis is working towards.
