Music is used many different ways. Everyone has there own way to see things. Trina uses her music as a form of resistance to express her opinions that other wise would go unheard by calling out other artist, sampling their music, and indirectly ridiculing them.

In the song “Pull Over” by Trina she uses several samples from other songs as a form of resistance. The main one being “Thong Song” by Sisqo. It is used as the choirs for the song. It was used due to accusations of relationships between the two artists. People for many years thought they were together for years (Who Sampled). The words are taken straight from the song with the beat being altered to better fit Trina. The changed beat makes you question the Sisqo ever saw her thong. This was her way of making sure her side of the story was heard.

Trina in “Pull Over” uses direct allusions as resistance for things said about her, African Americans, and females in general. One of the major allusions is her calling out Sisqo. Trina also used a sample of his song “Thong Song.” This was due to reports of the two artist having been in relations. She was directly referring to things he had said about her. Trina has been reported several times saying that her and several other artist are “not cool” because of incidents like this (Ny). She feel like she has been targeted because of her looks, and some people fear her talents as an artist. Her making these comments made it so people knew what was going on inside of her head.

Trina is a very talented artist. Pull Over is just one of many songs that she uses as a form of empowerment.
