A Short Talk about Black Women and Muni Long
Don’t worry, we won’t be here for hours and hours
In case you missed it, Priscilla Renea Hamilton, also known as Muni Long, has found herself in controversy due to her recent comments about Black women.
Now, I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of Long, but she does have a few bops. I originally heard of her when a social audio pioneer — who shall remain nameless — unceremoniously serenaded his married co-host via her hit song, “Hrs & Hrs.”
Fast forward, it wasn’t until I heard “Make Me Forget,” a song that I idiotically dedicated to my emotionally and psychologically abusive ex, that I started to add her songs to playlists. So, admittedly, I may be a tad biased about her music at this juncture. But that’s another story for another day.
Nevertheless, she’s definitely a very talented songwriter and a great singer, to boot. However, my fanfare for her begins and ends there. So, when I watched her latest rant, I was genuinely confused. I’m sure some of you may have appeared in her comments, but I certainly never was, and didn’t really know enough about her life and personality to have many gripes about her in general.
