Black Greek-Letter Organizations Need to Tighten Up and Improve The Narrative
Let me get this out of the way before anyone tries to come for me as a non-Greek.
I am Greek. I am an old head. Charge me in an email. Go ahead.
If you don’t know what “charge me” means, you can’t charge me.
I will not disclose what organization I am a member of.
Now that we have that out of the way, let’s begin.
Hazing Leading to Death
Caleb Wilson, a Southern University student who was pledging Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., passed away as a result of hazing. It is reported that he collapsed (possibly had a seizure) after being punched in the chest in a warehouse.
I recall during my college years two women who were pledging Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. drowned during their pledging process. Allegedly, they were blindfolded and led into the ocean.
Unfortunately, these are only two cases of such. There are many stories of hazing across the Divine 9 — from physical attacks to coerced sexual activities — to “earn” membership.
In light of Wilson’s passing, I have read posts and articles about hazing. One even called it personal, physical assault. This got me thinking and thus, this article was…
