Breaking The Silence: Black Men & Sexual Victimization In America
The widespread fear of facing sexual violation is often silent, — but for Black men specifically, — the silence is loud.
In America, Black men are the most at risk of being accused or convicted of any crime. The all too often idea that asserts Black men and boys as sexually or criminally hyperaggressive can easily displace them from being seen as victims at any rate. In reality, Black men and boys may just be the most silent survivors of sexual violence entirely.
According to the CDC, nearly one in four men (about 31 million) in the United States has experienced some form of sexual abuse in their lifetime. This does not account for unreported cases, cases outside of the U.S, nor does it address the statistics unique to Black men. Moreover, when it comes to sexual violence, Black men are victimized by men and women. An estimated 87% of male victims of rape reported that another male was the perpetrator against 79% of female perpetrators.
