Calling Breonna Taylor is Cap — Photo created by author with AI

As a Black womanist, I have always tried to extend a level of grace to all women. This is especially true for Black women with alternative views who aren’t necessarily accepted by the Black collective.

Candace Owens is a highly polarizing figure with (White) Republican-leaning views. She has been pissing off democrats and Black Americans for years.

Personally, I haven’t had much to say about her. On the one hand, I respect her right to have her own views and opinions, but on the other hand, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that, at times, she sounds a little too much like those who seek to oppress and subjugate the Black community.

The “White Lives Matter” stunt didn’t help. I mean, I love a good troll and understand the statement that was being made, but I’ll never forget the goofy grin she sported while wearing a slogan that she knew would be hurtful to many.

I mean, I know Black outrage sells, but there is something about a Black woman seeming so happy to be a part of such a stunt that was especially triggering. Perhaps it’s the empath in me, but something about that photo op just gave me the sense that she was enjoying antagonizing certain types of Black people more than she should’ve.
