It was my turn to drive. My former wife and I were headed west through Kansas on our way home. I’d just completed a summer internship in Washington D.C., with a very conservative U.S. congressman which, at the time, was my own political orientation. My first time in a voting booth, I’d voted for Reagan, who was in the first year of his first term attempting to implement his foremost policy objective, Reaganomics.
