The office of Barack and Michelle Obama announced today (Jan 14 ) that former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20, 2025.

This follows Mrs. Obama’s absence from the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter on January 9, 2025. Many, including myself, speculated that Mrs. Obama did not attend the funeral because she was not in the mental or emotional space to attend a funeral after losing her beloved mother, Mrs. Marian Robinson, in May 2024 and having just experienced her first holiday season without her mother. While that may be true, it now appears that Mrs. Obama had other reasons.

It seems that Mrs. Obama did not want to sit next to Donald Trump; Mrs. Obama does not want to be in spaces with Donald Trump; and Mrs. Obama does not want to celebrate Donald Trump.

It appears Mrs. Obama is taking a stance and ushering in a movement. She is giving a new meaning to, “Obama out.”
