Rebuke: to express sharp disapproval or criticism of someone because of their actions, behavior, or judgment.
“I rebuke you in the name of Jesus” was among the last words of Sonya Massey as she was summarily executed by deputy Sean Grayson of Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office near Springfield, Illinois.

To rebuke is to disapprove, dislike, or not endorse. To rebuke someone in the “name of Jesus” is to disapprove of someone because the standards at which Jesus exists, or has existed, are notably higher than the standards of your current proven behavior, actions, or judgment thus far. I rebuke you because Jesus is the Most High, and you most certainly have strayed from his philosophy concerning what it means to be good in this world and the next.
For my white and other non-Black cousins: this phrase is most certainly a Black, Afro-American thing. It’s beyond me how a large well-built man finds threat in a small woman stating her disapproval of mere words.
