To say that American culture is hypocritical is a major understatement. The nation routinely declares itself as the epitome of democracy and freedom, yet we frequently tend to neglect the fact that the nation was assembled on the brutal mistreatment of others.

In our current era of de facto segregation, racism still exists as a mechanism to set up impossible standards that black public figures have to meet in order to be accepted by the public. Black public figures are often held to higher standards because of racist attempts to prove that there is no such thing as a black representative that fits the perfect American model.

Racism, double standards, White denial and racial resistance are real facts of everyday life. Unfortunately, for most people of color, we do/did not need mounds of social science data to be reminded of the rampant White fragility that permeates within a sizable percentage of White people across the political, economic and social spectrum. Rather, we have been bearing witness to such grim and truthful realities since the dawn of the republic.

The evolution of Black Lives Matter, the re-election of Donald Trump, and the growing and ongoing fear of immigrants have led to deep levels of resentment and hostility among a sizable segment of white and a few non-white Americans.
